Submission instructions

The directory will be published using a proven publishing technology available in SL. Each page will be a 3:4 ratio and supplied images should be at a resolution that matches this ration, for example 384 by 512.

Important: Images must be supplied with full permissions to the next owner, failure to set permissions correctly will cause your submission to be omitted.

You must supply an image for each page you wish published. The first page must always include the name of the SIM, details of a contact person or group, an indication of PG or Mature status and a summary of the sim. For multiple page sims the summary may be omitted from the front page.

Pages should be named as the sim with an incrementing page number for multi page submissions. Prefix minor words (The, A etc) should be omitted. The page name will determine where in the book your listing will be shown so you may want to specify an slightly different name. For example a sim named "The Kingdom of the Ice Lolly" may submit pages named:

Kingdom of the Ice Lolly 1
Kingdom of the Ice Lolly 2

or

Ice Lolly, The Kingdom of 1
Ice Lolly, The Kingdom of 2

Any submission trying to use page naming to select an order that would not be considered normal will be rejected. For example the following names would not be allowed:

AAAAA Ice Lolly, The Kingdom of 1
AAAAA Ice Lolly, The Kingdom of 2

Create a single prim name name it as above without the page number. Place all your pages plus appropriate payment tokens into the prim. Go to the following location:

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Galleria/92/199/405

Where you will find a notice board, a token vendor (not currently in position but will be placed before charging starts) and two monoliths, one for RP sims, one for Activity sims. The notice board will will display the closing date for submissions, if it says "Submissions Due: Closed" your submission will be held over till the next issue unless your submitting a feature listing. Drag your prim onto the appropriate monolith to submit it.

Standard Pricing

Note: The following pricing list does not apply to the first issue. There will be no charge for listings in the first issue, however the number of pages per listing will be limited to two and the SIM for the feature listing will be selected by the publisher.

It is intended that all single page listings will be free forever, a sim owner may place a single page listing for no fee which will be carried over from one issue to the next. A sim owner may also request the removal of their single page listing for no charge. However modification of a single page listing will incur a 100L$ fee. If you request a listing be removed then try and submit a new listing for the next issue for the same sim in an attempt to bypass this fee, your new listing will not be included unless the 100L$ fee is paid.

Charges for additional pages will be 300L$ per page up to a maximum of 3 additional pages (the first page will always be free), this gives a maximum 1200$L fee for a full 4 page listing.

For each issue, one feature listing will be made available via slexchange for a fee that is yet to be decided. This listing will allow the purchaser to submit up to 8 pages that will be included at the beginning of the book (after any contents and related pages) plus allow them to submit an image for the front cover. A purchaser of a feature listing will not be allowed to allowed to purchase another feature listing for the same sim for the next three issues.

In either case, the submitter must supply a full set of pages for each issue they want the listing to be included in. Submissions may not be made in advance (ie you may not submit a listing for a specific issue until we open submissions for that issue). Any duplicate submissions made will be ignored and any supplied fee's will not be returned.

Payment may be made using tokens available via in world vendors or slexchange, multiple tokens may be purchased in advance but any unused tokens will not be refunded should the ARPS cease. Tokens will always be available while ARPS operates and as such I recommend you only buy enough tokens for your immediate requirements. A token vendor will be available at the submission location.

Only one feature token will be made available (and only on slexchange) per issue. Failure to submit a feature listing using the token before the submission deadline will void the token.

See additional articles for submission instructions.

ARPS Directory: An introduction.

ARPS stands for Adventure and Role Play Sims, it is an initiative to produce a freely distributable directory of sims within Second Life that are mainly aimed either at a specific activity or intended for role playing.

The setting of a Role Play sim is irrelevant, it may be futuristic, medieval or anything in between. Adventure sims may be dedicated (for example) to vehicle racing, horse riding, winter sports or possibly a permanent treasure hunt. In both cases, while a section of the sim may be dedicated to a mall, shops or rented land, the main intent of the sim should not be commercial. Note that renting shops, homes etc for the purpose of role play or the supply of subject related items would not be considered commercial. Basically I just want to make sure sims dedicated to malls are not included.

Sims dedicated to Adult activities will be accepted under advisement, do not assume that because adult sims are submitted that they will be published. Its possible, depending on demand, that a separate adult directory may be published.

The directory will be organized alphabetically except for the feature article which will be included at the beginning of the book. If necessary the directory may be split into multiple books.

The directory will be distributed as one or more books (depending on the number of submissions), and will be made available via networked vendors, for no charge, at a number of sites throughout Second Life. If you would like to host a vendor, please contact me at the following email address:

arps.directory (at) googlemail.com

Please see the other posts in this blog for listing costs and what you must supply to be listed.

Initially we do not intent to allow any advertising in the directory, however should fee's not cover expenses we may include a few appropriate adverts in future issues.

Please note: we reserve the right to refuse listing, however we will try and contact you before the submission deadline to give you a chance to correct any issues.
